We are a small independent publisher in Kingston, Ontario, specializing in non-fiction books with low press run, focussing mainly on natural history.
Our goal is to provide a service for the publication of low cost books on topics that larger publishers will probably not touch without a large up-front payment. We offer all publishing services from editing and proofreading to layout and design, with printing at mixam in Toronto or publishing on Amazon Kindle as either an ebook or a print-on-demand book. We can also supply a print-ready PDF if you want to use a different printing service.
We do not do contracts and offer this publishing service at no charge, at least until our funding runs out. We can provide advice at any stage of the writing process but we set no deadlines.
Why ALULA? The alula is a small ‘wing’ made up of just 3-5 feathers at a bird’s ‘wrist’ joint as shown in the lovely Peregrine Falcon photo above, taken by Bruce Lyon in California. The alula is movable, visible only when the birds needs some added stability or maneuverability when it’s landing, soaring, or performing some aerial acrobatics. Like the slats on an airplane’s wing, the alula creates some extra lift that prevents stalling in flight. We like to think of Alula Press as the sort of service that can help authors avoid stalling when trying to get their book published.
We take on only a few projects each year. Contact us with a proposal if you are interested in publishing with us.
